Kindergarten and 1st Grade Violin

Kindergarten and first grade students will be starting off on violin and will learn the techniques needed to successfully play songs. Students will have one 20 minute lesson by themselves or with a friend, and one 40 minute group class where all students in each grade will meet. Parents are expected to either come to lessons or join adult orchestra.

Prep Orchestra (2nd Grade)

2nd Grade Prep Orchestra is just that. An orchestra that preps students to get into a full ensemble by learning music literacy, ensemble skills, and confidence building. Students will have one 20 minute lesson by themselves or with a friend, and one 40 minute group class where all students from 2nd grade will meet. Parents are expected to either come to lessons or join adult orchestra.

Concert Orchestra (3-5th Beginning Orchestra)

Concert Orchestra is designed for students who did not have a chance to play in the beginning due to a school change or any other circumstance. This beginner course is designed for students to build their technique and get familiar with their instrument of choice as well as develop other skills such as ensemble skills. Students are recommended but not obligated to join district orchestra in their spring semester and try out for Solo and Ensemble. Students will have one 20 minute lesson by themselves or with a friend, and one 40 minute group classes per week where all students from Orchestra 1 will meet.

A native of South Carolina,

Andrew Price is a double

bassist, teacher, personal

fitness trainer, and conductor

residing in the Charleston

area. He received his Bachelors

of Music in Music Education

with a Performance Certificate

in double bass from the

University of South Carolina in

2015.

 

When going to college,

he joined the University of

South Carolina Symphony

Orchestra and was principal 

bassist of University of South

Carolina Chamber Orchestra

as well as the USC Wind

Ensemble, under the direction

of Dr. Donald Portnoy and Dr. Scott Weiss. He also joined the

Long Bay Symphony in 2011. In 2013 He founded the Double Bass Club of South Carolina Inc. and served as the President from 2013-2014 and is now the Chief Operations Officer as the non-profit organization continues to grow.

 

Andrew has presented multiple sessions at the South Carolina Music Educators Association in Columbia South Carolina, as well as at the American Strings Teachers Association (ASTA) in Tampa, FL and Pittsburgh, PA.

 

Currently, Andrew teaches Kindergarten through 5th grade as well as an Adult Community Orchestra at the North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School. He is the Principal Bassist of the Summerville Community Orchestra and a section bassist for North Charleston POPS! He is also the Defensive Line Coach for Academic Magnet High School and is working on his Masters in Arts Leadership and Cultural Management from Colorado State University.

Philharmonic Orchestra (3rd Grade Returning Students)

Pre Requisite- 2nd Grade Prep Orchestra

Philharmonic is for returning students that have basic technique and music literacy. Students will know basic rhythms and notes as well as good finger placement. Students are encouraged but not obligated to join district orchestra in the fall semester and try out for Solo and Ensemble. Students in Orchestra will be going to concert festival in March to perform for a state adjudication. Students will have one 20 minute lesson by themselves or with a friend, and one 40 minute group classes per week where all students from Philharmonic Orchestra will meet. Parents are expected to either come to lessons or join adult orchestra.

Chamber Orchestra (4th and 5th Grade Returning)

Pre Requisite- Orchestra 1 or Orchestra 2
 

Chamber is for returning students that have basic technique and music literacy. Students will know basic rhythms and notes as well as good finger placement. Students are encouraged but not obligated to join district orchestra in the fall semester and try out for Solo and Ensemble. Students in Orchestra will be going to concert festival in March to perform for a state adjudication. Students will have one 20 minute lesson by themselves or with a friend, and one 40 minute group classes per week where all students from Chamber will meet. Parents are expected to either come to lessons or join adult orchestra.

Shocking Strings (Electric Orchestra Club)

Audition Group Only

Students who are in shocking strings and will be working on contemporary music styles and improvisational techniques. Students will be working with multi functional sound boards and sound pedals to experience a vast array of musical styles and genres. Students will work to complete a one song project to display at the end of the year with a band.
